Meet the Ingredient

Mung bean, known in Thailand as thua khiao (pronounced too-ah kee-ow), is a small green seed that has long been part of Thai cooking and everyday life. Beyond the kitchen, its naturally fine texture also makes it a gentle ingredient for cleansing and smoothing the skin.

We use finely milled mung bean powder in our Mung Bean Lavender & Eucalyptus Cleansing Bar Soap, where it lightly polishes the skin as you wash. It helps lift away dead skin, excess oil and daily buildup, leaving the face and body feeling cleaner, softer and smoother without the harsh feel of a traditional scrub.

Mung bean is naturally rich in polyphenols and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds help calm visible irritation and protect the skin from damage that can contribute to dryness, dullness and early signs of ageing.

When ground into a fine powder, mung bean also provides gentle physical exfoliation, helping remove dead skin and surface buildup that can leave the complexion feeling rough or oily.

Did You Know?

Mung bean is at the heart of luk chup, the colourful Thai sweets shaped by hand to look like tiny fruits and vegetables. The dessert developed during the Ayutthaya period from a Portuguese almond sweet, with locally available mung beans becoming the base of the Thai version.

That same humble ingredient also has a place in our skincare. Finely milled mung bean gives our cleansing bar a gentle polishing action, helping turn an everyday wash into a simple step for smoother, fresher-feeling skin.
