Meet the Ingredient

Sesame, known in Thailand as nga (pronounced ng-ah, the "ng” sounding like the ending of the word “sing”), has been part of Thai food and traditional care for generations. Though the seeds are tiny, they produce a beautifully silky oil that we value for the lasting softness and nourishment it brings to dry hair, scalp and skin. We choose cold-pressed sesame oil to preserve as much of its naturally nourishing character as possible.

Sesame sits at the heart of several of our most nourishing rituals. It forms the base of our award-winning Hair Mask and Scalp Treatment set, helping moisturise and comfort a dry, flaky scalp while leaving dry, frizzy hair softer, smoother and easier to manage. You’ll also find it in our Rich Body Oil, Uplifting Body Oil and Herbal Warmth Body Oil, where its nourishing properties leaves skin feeling soft, supple and radiant.

Sesame oil is naturally rich in linoleic and oleic acids, alongside antioxidant lignans including sesamin and sesamolin. These protective plant compounds help defend against oxidative stress, while linoleic acid plays an important role in maintaining the skin’s natural barrier and its ability to hold onto moisture.

In hair and body rituals, sesame oil works as a nourishing emollient that helps soften rough skin and condition dry strands.

Did You Know?

Sesame seeds add a gentle nuttiness and delicate crunch to Thai dishes and sweets. They are traditionally scattered over the sweet version of khanom bueang, a crisp Thai street snack filled with coconut cream and golden foy thong egg threads.

The seeds also contain a remarkably generous amount of oil. On Aunty Koi’s Thai family farm, they are cold-pressed without heat or chemical solvents to create the silky sesame oil used in our hair, scalp and body rituals.
