Meet the Ingredient

Turmeric, known in Thailand as khamin (pronounced kha-min), is one of the golden roots of Thai herbal care. Rich in natural antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, we value turmeric for bringing soothing, restorative care to rituals for the scalp, hair, face and body.

Our organic turmeric is grown by Aunty Somsri Chasook in Kalasin, northeastern Thailand. Her farm follows a self-sufficient, zero-waste approach: water used to wash vegetables is collected to nourish other plants, while leftover fruit and vegetables are transformed into natural fertiliser. Her high quality turmeric nurtures naturally healthy soft, healthy hair and skin and features in our award-winning scalp treatment, herbal mask, facial oil, body oil and cleansing bar soap.

Turmeric is naturally rich in curcuminoids, especially curcumin, which have powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. These qualities allow turmeric to naturally support both skin and hair health with its protective properties, soothing inflammatory skin concerns, such as acne, and soothing sensitive skin conditions such as psoriasis.

Did You Know?

For hundreds of years, turmeric has held a place inside luk pra kob, the steamed herbal compresses used in traditional Thai massage. Recipes vary between regions and practitioners, but turmeric is commonly wrapped inside cloth with warming and aromatic herbs such as plai, lemongrass and kaffir lime, then steamed to release their warmth and natural fragrance. This ritual remains part of Thai traditional medicine and spa culture today.
