Meet the Ingredient

Pandan, known in Thailand as bai toey (ใบเตย, pronounced bai toey), is one of those plants that feels inseparable from everyday Thai life. Its long green leaves and naturally sweet, comforting aroma are familiar in homes, markets and kitchens across the country, where pandan has been folded, tied and infused for generations. For us, that familiarity gives the ingredient a sense of warmth and home that extends naturally into our all-natural rituals.

We chose pandan for the gentle, refreshing character it brings to skin care. In our Wildcrafted Botanical Plants Repair & Hydrate Mist, we use pandan leaf distillate alongside five other Thai botanicals.

Pandan leaves are naturally rich in phenolic compounds and flavonoids with antioxidant properties. These qualities help explain pandan’s value as a protective Southeast Asian botanical associated with defending against oxidative stress.

Did You Know?

Pandan’s comforting fragrance comes from 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, the same aroma compound closely associated with fragrant jasmine and basmati rice. Thai cooks commonly knot or bruise the leaves before adding them to rice, coconut milk and desserts, helping release their sweet, grassy aroma. Pandan is also pressed for its natural green colour and wrapped around foods such as gai hor bai toey, or pandan-wrapped chicken.

We transform this familiar Thai leaf into a certified-organic distillate for skincare. In our facial mist, it works alonside five other wildcrafted botanicals to create a lightweight mist for refreshing and hydrating dry or sensitive skin.
