Hairline Acne & Dryness

Have you ever had tiny bumps or dryness only along your hairline? This could be the side of your face, the upper part of the forehead, or along the back of your neck. The cause may be your hair care products. Ranging from shampoos, conditioners, and styling products, these tools can cause blemishes and acne around the hair line which later can cause dryness and breakouts.

What is causing the breakouts and dryness?

Thick shampoos and conditioners contain high amount of ingredients such as petroleum, silicone, cocoa butter. While other products such as hairspray and dry shampoos also contain sulfates sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, and mineral oil that can dry skin and and eventually producing more sebum which can trigger acne, if left on the skin especially along the hairline, forehead, or the back of your neck.

The best way is to pay attention to where your breakouts are occurring. The hairline, neck, and upper back are the areas that tend to be affected by residue from hair products and accumulate the residue from products.

Recommendation:

Hairline Acne: Apply a hair mask before heading into the shower. Use lightweight oils to rehydrate and nourish your scalp. Herbal products are also great for sensitive skin since it doesn't cause any side-effect.

Dry Hairline: If you haven't just come out of the shower with a fresh hair wash, spray water onto your hairline and then apply a hair oil along your hair line on the spots you sprayed water on. The oil will help lock in the moisture from the water all day long!
