Oil & Water

It doesn't mix

“Is it better to apply the oil to dry skin or can it be damp or slightly wet? Is there any difference?” This is one of the questions we’re often asked! The short answer is that it’s more effective to apply our product on damp skin because the extra moisture from the water help spread the product out more evenly and help your skin absorb it better Now here’s our favourite part: the long answer. I hope you’re ready for some science! There are four main reasons why applying our oil on damp skin is more effective:

1. Your skin is made up of multiple layers, and when your skin is wet - after showering, for example - some of the water is absorbed by your skin. This is important because...

2. Water molecules are cohesive, meaning that they’re attracted to other molecules that are similar. It’s also important to note that water molecules well-known to repel oils. Which means that when you apply our body oil onto damp skin...

3. The repelling effect of the water molecules allows our oils to easily and more effectively spread across your skin, filling in the gaps between skin cells that were caused by dryness or flaking and bringing important hydration & healing. And most importantly...

4. Our body oil essentially traps the water molecules underneath your skin’s surface, locking in much needed moisture for longer and preventing the essential vitamins & minerals in our body oil from evaporating before they can be absorbed. Thus, by applying our body oil on damp skin, you’re allowing it to more effectively moisturise, hydrate, nourish and nurse your skin from the inside-out. You’ll get the same effect when applying on dry skin. It just won’t be as effective.
