How to Deal with an Oily Scalp and Dry Ends

Dealing with different hair and scalp problems can be tricky. Whether it's a dry hair, curly hair, oily hair or frizzy hair, these conditions can take a long time to work with. But what if it's not only just one hair problem? In reality, many people suffer from many hair conditions. One of the most common hair combination we've found is oily scalp and dry ends.

Determine Your Scalp Oiliness & Dry Hair

In order to determine the oiliness on your scalp, we recommend to first see if the scalp feels oily and greasy within 1 to 2 days after washing while your hair feels dry and brittle. If so, you likely have this combination.

An oily scalp tends to appear very greasy, slick, and lifeless while dry ends appear to be frizzy and damaged.

Furthermore, people who have colour or bleach their hair tend to have an oily scalp and dry ends as the chemicals strip the natural oils from hair and scalp that keep them nourished.

What causes hair to dry and scalp to be oily?

According to the research, an oily scalp can be caused by the excess oil production from sebaceous glands which can be genetic or caused by external factor such as hair products.

Dry hair, however, can tend to cause by environmental factors, and hair practices including over-washing, sun exposure, weather, and hair products.

Here's how you can solve the problems:

1. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner:

For oily scalp, applying shampoo just to your roots where it gets greasy is better. This will help you to get rid of products buildup and impurities on the scalp without stripping the natural oils that keep your hair needs. For conditioner, however, consider applying the product to only the bottom ends of your hair to prevent adding more greasiness to the scalp

2. Wash your hair less often

Washing your hair can actually strip the natural oils your hair needs. In fact, it stimulates the scalp to produce more oils.

3. Rehydrate the hair with a Hair Mask

Apply hair oil just to your dry hair will help restore the moisture without adding more grease to the oily scalp. Just apply generous amount of it and leave for 15 minutes before washing it out will result in less frizzy hair!

4. Use a scalp treatment

By investing in a good scalp treatment, it can effectively detoxify dandruff, oils and any products buildup that existing on your scalp which can naturally reduce oiliness while promoting healthy hair growth.

5. Avoid the high heat

The heat from blow-drying, curling or flat ironing tends to make your scalp more oily while making the hair brittle. The best way to solve this is to make sure your hair isn't exposing to high heat regularly.
