These microorganisms serve as a barrier to prevent the invasion of pathogens, similar to the one in our gut. In order to keep our skin healthy, the coexistence of the skin microbiome and its environment have to stay balanced.

These skin microbiomes are responsible for protecting skin from pathogens, controlling skin immunity, nutrient absorption and supporting skin barrier. Skin microbiome traps moisture, and protects the skin from irritants and potential pathogens out, reducing the risks of skin inflammation and infection.

The you know what has naturally led us to hyper-hygienic habits; scrubbing our hands with soap or using hand sanitiser throughout the day is inevitable. This strips out natural oils and the leads to a lot of irritation and sensitive skin issues.
What to do to protect Skin Microbiome?
The most gentle & effective way to take care of the skin microbiome is to use a clean, small list of ingredients for skincare. Focus on hydrating and nourishing ingredients such as coconut oil, sesame oil, and jojoba oil. Another thing to note is to avoid harsh surfactants that strip the skin's natural oils. This can help with skin microbiome maintenance and balance to help the skin recover from dangerous ingredients. Of course, since we can't completely avoid our hands drying out due to the excess washing and sanitising, it's best to start moisturising them just as often!
